Exhibitions

September 20th – November 25th 2022
Gallery: Oriel Y Bont, University of South Wales,
Llantwit Rd, Pontypridd CF37 1DL, UK

Lifting the Lid II exhibition brings the work of twenty artists living in Wales and Japan to Oriel Y Bont. Curated by Heather Parnell, it involves artists whose diverse practices touch on notions of the everyday and the exploration of ordinary objects. The first Lifting the Lid exhibition took place in Gallery Art Spot Korin, Kyoto in 2020 at the height of Covid 19 travel restrictions. The title’s double meaning refers partially to the necessities of posting work to a gallery in boxes but also, to the imagination, questions and insights uncovered by the artworks themselves. This project has evolved through Wales Arts International research trips to Japan (2018 and 2019), and the valued support of artist-curator, Masahiro Kawanaka.
